Stefano Della Bella, Hungarian Cavalier

Florence 1610 – 1664 Florence

Della Bella certainly recorded the resplendent entry of the Polish Ambassador with a huge entourage of riders when he was in Rome in 1633. The individual cavaliers in his series of ‘Negro, Polish & Hungarian Horsemen’ may have been drawn when Ladislav IV and escort similarly entered Paris in 1645, during Della Bella’s residency in that city.
