Information about the Artist
Henry Ninham trained as an engraver with his father, John, a heraldic painter and copper plate printer and founding member of the Society of Norwich Artists, while he was taught painting by John Crome.
On his father’s death in 1817 Ninham took over running the family business. He printed all of E T Daniell’s plates, as well as working on Crome’s plates for their posthumous publication.
Ninham exhibited oils and watercolours at the Norwich Society of Artists and also made a number of etchings of Norwich architecture and antiquities designed for publication, as well as a series of small original views, some quite Rembrandtesque, of Norfolk landscape, such as the lovely miniature drypoint Bridge and Mill, Composition included here, for private circulation; the latter only being formally published in 1875, the year after he died, as one of the Fifteen Etchings by the late Henry Ninham, with a Memoir.
