Walcot etched two companion plates, The Tepidarium, 1915 and the Frigidarium 1919.
The Baths of Caracalla were begun under his father Emperor Septimus Severus and completed in the reign of Caracalla. They were inaugurated in AD 216 and remained in use until the sixth century.
The city’s second largest public baths, by the fifth century AD they were referred to as one of the Seven Wonders of Rome. |
