Colour Wood Engraving

Colour is almost extraneous to wood engraving with its emphasis on tonal qualities, though a few artists did experiment.

Whereas both colour woodcuts and lino prints can be and generally are printed by hand, colour wood engraving demands one of the versions of the platen press.

As in conventional woodcut and linocut a different block is made for each colour and oil-based printing ink applied with a roller.
